Vera I. Paige, age 88, of Blue Rapids passed away at her home with her family surrounding her on Friday, March 16, 2018.A memorial service is planned for 10:30 am, Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the Blue Rapids United Methodist Church in Blue Rapids with Pastor Debby Dick officiating. Beverly Hedke is the musician. Hymns include Faith Flower singing “Freely” and congregational hymns of Victory in Jesus” and “Be Thou My Vision”. Inurnment Services will be at 2:30 pm, Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Wilsey Cemetery, Wilsey, Kansas.Vera was born on December 29, 1929 at the family farm at Wilsey, Kansas to Frank and Hazel (Plott) Roy. She graduated Valedictorian from Wilsey Rural High School, Wilsey, Kansas. She attended Emporia State Teachers College 2 summers earning a 2.8 hour emergency teaching certificate and taught 2 years at the Lone Star School at Burdick, Kansas. At Wilsey she was a member of the Sunflower Improvement Club and the Worthwhile Quilting Club. After moving to Blue Rapids with her family in July of 1956, she joined the Even Dozen Club and the Tuesday Afternoon Club. She taught Kindergarten for the 20th Century Club for 7 years. Vera worked for Vic Stanley for 20 years and Marvin and Verla Feldhausen for 5 yrs at Stanley’s Hy-Klas.Vera was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be missed by all who loved her.She was a member of the Blue Rapids United Methodist Church serving on various committees, teaching Sunday School classes, a member of United Methodist Women and was the church organist for 43 years. She was an avid reader and studied the Bible from her teenage years throughout her adult life. She led bible study groups always willing to share her knowledge and understanding of the Bible. Vera married Wilbur L. Paige on December 28, 1948.Vera is survived by her son Philip Paige of Blue Rapids, her daughter, Althea (Mike) Wertz of Blue Rapids, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.Preceding in death by her husband Wilbur in 2016, her parents, three brothers; Virgil Roy, Arthur Roy and infant brother Billy Roy, a sister, Valora Curliss, and a great grand-daughter Emma Marie Corn.
