Dorothy K. Swearingen, age 82, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018, at her home in Barnes.Dorothy was born April 10, 1935, on the family farm north of Waterville, to William and Agnes (Brychta) Petr. She graduated from Waterville High School in 1952. She married Jack W. Swearingen on June 25, 1952 at Huntsville, Arkansas. She was a homemaker. She also drove a school bus for fourteen years before retiring.Dorothy was a big KU fan, she enjoyed watching their teams play ball. She also enjoyed watching game shows and doing word search puzzles. She probably spent more time worrying about her children and grandchildren than she did about herself.Survivors include her five sons; Randy (Deb) Swearingen of Waterville, Rob (Karen) Swearingen of Blue Rapids, Rankin (Sheron) Swearingen of Blue Rapids, Rodney Swearingen of Blue Rapids, Ryan Swearingen of Lenexa, two daughters; Rhonda Pierson of Blue Rapids and Regina Pierson of Blue Rapids, fifteen and 30 great-grandchildren.Preceding in death were her parents, her husband Jack in 2003, a sister Laurene Luckeroth, a brother Donald Petr and a grandson Jeremy Pierson.Funeral services are at 2:00 pm, Friday, January 12, 2018, at Terry-Christie Funeral Home in Waterville with Mr. Roger Terry officiating. Casket Bearers are Randy Swearingen, Rob Swearingen, Rankin Swearingen, Rodney Swearingen, Ryan Swearingen and Shannon Swearingen. Honorary bearers are Dan Swearingen, Derrick Swearingen and Dillon Scheetz. Burial is at Maplewood Cemetery, west of Barnes.Memorials are suggested to the Dorothy Swearingen Memorial Fund to be determined later and may be sent in care of the funeral home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
