Aneta Hagenmaier

Aneta Mae Hagenmaier, age 83, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.

She was born on Easter Sunday, April 9, 1939 on a farm east of Leonardville, the daughter of Harold and Nettie (Remmers) Classon.  She was baptized on June 18, 1939 by Pastor William Eldien at the Walsburg Lutheran Church on her Mother’s Birthday and Father’s Day.  She was confirmed on September 6, 1953 by Pastor Virgil Lundquist at the Walsburg Lutheran Church.  Aneta attended Walsburg Grade School from grades 1 through 7 and graduated 8th grade at Leonardville Grade School.  She graduated from Leonardville Rural High School in 1957 and attended Clark’s School of Business in Topeka.

On June 20, 1963, she was united in marriage to Rabern L. Hagenmaier at the Walsburg Lutheran parsonage by Rev. Carl A. B. Swanson.  He preceded her in death on July 8, 2011.

During her lifetime, Aneta worked as a waitress, typist, sales clerk, office secretary at Neld Equipment Company in Topeka and as a legal secretary for Charles S. Arthur in the law firm of Arthur-Green LLP for nearly 35 years.

Aneta was a member of the Walsburg Lutheran Church where she served on the Church Council, the Worship and Music Committee, and held various offices in the Walsburg Lutheran Church Women of the ELCA and Hope Circle throughout the years.  She was a past member of the Manhattan Legal Secretaries Association, Kansas Association of Legal Secretaries and the National Association of Legal Secretaries.  She was named the Manhattan Legal Secretary of the Year and was second runner-up in the Kansas Legal Secretary of the Year awards in 1981.  Aneta enjoyed crocheting, painting, garden flowers and humming birds.  She especially enjoyed genealogy and was working on several family history books.  She also enjoyed traveling to Branson, Missouri with her husband to attend his Air Force reunions.

She is survived by one sister-in-law, Linda Lucas and husband Rick of Lawrence; Billy and Pam Gray of Crab Orchard, Tennessee; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her infant brother, Ray Harold Classon; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Byarlay, Beverly Hagenmaier and Theresia Hagenmaier and three brothers-in-law, Bob Hagenmaier, Wendell Hagenmaier and Phil Byarlay.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2022 at the Walsburg Lutheran Church with Rev. Kaylie Ines officiating.  Respect calls may be from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.  Burial will be in the Randolph Fancy Creek Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Walsburg Lutheran Church and Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research at KSU.  Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
