Cloyde Francis Hunter, age 86 of Clay Center, passed away Monday, January 4, 2016 at Medicalodge of Clay Center.
He was born on March 12, 1929 in Irving, Kansas, the son of Ezra Z. and Rose M. (Novak) Hunter.
On June 18, 1953, he was married to Mary Alice Pogue. She preceded him in death on June 23, 1988. He later married Thelma Lorine Allen. She preceded him in death in 2003.
He was in the U.S. Army as a mechanic and served in Korea. After his military service he was a mechanic and owned Hunter’s Garage in Leonardville. He was a member of Leonardville United Methodist Church and later the Clay Center United Methodist Church, American Legion and V.F.W. He served on the Leonardville Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years and on the Leonardville City Council.
He is survived by three sons, Cloyde Eugene Hunter and Debra of Clay Center, Donald Lee Hunter and Patricia of Pratt and Jeffrey Alan Hunter and Mary of Clay Center; one daughter, Marilyn Kay Koehn and husband Jay of Greensburg; one sister, Anna Marie Williamson of Liberty, Missouri; ten grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Hunter; three brothers, Albert, Virgil and Wilbur Hunter, one sister, Clema Haller and one granddaughter, Karen Mynssen-Santos.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Clay Center United Methodist Church with Pastor Ryan Lynch officiating. Respect calls may be made anytime Thursday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Wounded Warrior Project. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley.
