Dennis Hogan

Dennis G. Hogan, age 68, of Blue Rapids, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Community Memorial Health Care in Marysville.

Dennis was born April 26, 1956, at Sabetha, to Francis H. and Gevene A. (Shaffer) Hogan. He graduated from Marysville High School in the class of 1974. After high school he served in the US Navy on the USS Nimitz. He was married to Jan E. Whitesell on October 24, 1981, in Blue Rapids.

Dennis was a member of New Hope Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Blue Rapids, where he had served as a Deacon. He had worked at GP Gypsum for 35 years before his retirement in 2018. He was a lifetime member of the Sons of the American Legion.

Denny met the love of his life Jan in the bar. He loved and cherished her for the next forty-three years. He never let any birthday, anniversary or holidays pass by without flowers and gifts. He had a great sense of humor and was always ready with a smart comeback. He always enjoyed the holidays; Thanksgiving and Christmas were his favorites. His favorite hobbies were photography, grilling, fishing and loving on his dog Gracie. He loved to cook and spent many hours reading cookbooks and watching the Food Network on TV. He loved watching NFL games with Brett and if the Chiefs were playing, things got loud. Some of Jan and Denny’s favorite memories are going to Branson and Minnesota with Dave and Melva, and the many, many outings with them and John and Cheryl. In the evenings you could always find Denny and Jan in their recliners holding hands.

Survivors include Dennis’ wife Jan, his mother Gevene, his son Brett Hogan (and family: Amber, Zoe, Blaise and Maverick), of Blue Rapids, his siblings Mary (David) Lyhane of Marysville, Jolene Wagner of Great Bend, and Robert (Carol) Hogan of Sutter, California, mother-in-law Bonnie Whitesell, sisters-in-laws Melva (David) Sanner, Cheryl (John) Ralph, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Preceding Dennis in death were his father Francis, father-in-law Melvin Whitesell, brother-in-law Mike Wagner, and nephew Benjamin Hogan.
