Don K. Appleton, age 78 of Green, Kansas passed away Thursday, February 5, 2015 at the Clay County Medical Center in Clay Center.
He was born on February 7, 1936 in Green, Kansas, the son of Charles H. and Lula A. (Whitaker) Appleton.
On October 12, 1967, he was married to Dreda Lister Sterrett in Green at his mother’s house. She survives at the Leonardville Nursing Home.
Don was a carpenter and a draftsman. He worked for Mobil-Traveler in Junction City for 12 years and Wardcraft Homes in Clay Center for 12 years. Early in his working career he was an accountant. He was a member of the Green United Methodist Church and a former mayor of Green for 20 years. He loved to paint and was an accomplished artist. His love for painting had made many local families and many others, memories of their home sites available and on display in their homes.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three step children, Fran Scheinkoenig and Rod of Palmer, Texas, Dale Sterrett and Nan of Concordia and Dan Sterrett and Kathy of Olathe; one sister, Peggy Lou Martin; one sister-in-law, Ann Appleton; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Appleton and a nephew, Mark.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley with Pastor Sarah Gill officiating. Respect calls may be made anytime Monday, where the family will receive friends from 7 - 8 P.M. Monday evening. Burial will be in the Green Cemetery south of Green, Kansas.
Memorials have been established for Green United Methodist Church and Dettmer Park. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas.
