Doris Bishop, age 90, of Blue Rapids, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Community Memorial Heath Care in Marysville.

 

Doris was born December 4, 1933, on the family farm southwest of Waterville.   She is the daughter of Henry E. and Florence M. (Rosebaugh) Gordon.  She married Donald E. Bishop in 1950, he passed away in 1987.

 

She worked for many years as a cook at Valley Heights High School.  She loved following Valley Heights sports and followed the kids to ball games, even when her family wasn’t playing.  She was such an enthusiastic fan that one time she was offered a referee whistle for a game.

 

Doris was a member of the United Methodist Church in Blue Rapids.  She loved to camp with family and friends, traveling with her siblings to Branson and Vegas.  She also loved cooking, canning and making elderberry wine.   Cooking Sunday dinner for her family was a tradition that went beyond graduation and marriages.  

 

Survivors include her four children: Rick (Amy) Bishop of Blue Rapids, Susie Davis also of Blue Rapids, Terry (Karla) Bishop of Vliets, and Donald (Kelly) Bishop of Goddard, a sister Viola Keefover of Manhattan, by fourteen grandchildren: Bobby Dale, Melanie (Dane) Osteen, Melinda (Robert) Warren, Ryan (Rachael) Bishop, Curtis Bishop, Sarah (Brian) Hormann, Jimmy Davis, Kim Davis, Tiffany (Andrew) Watt, Lance (Tina) Davis, Jeremy (Liz) Bishop, Jessica (Hunter) Oswald, Connor (Shannon) Pike and Braden Bishop, and by numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

 

Preceding Doris in death were her husband Donald Bishop, parents Henry and Florence Gordon, daughter Debbie Bishop, twelve brothers and sisters: Franklin “Pete” Gordon, William Gordon, Esther Christenson, Thelma Gano, James Gordon, Donald Gordon, Merle Gordon, Nellie Graham, Bessie Patterson, Mary Hess, Marjorie Hagedorn, and Ruth Gordon, and by a great-great grandson Crue.

 

A viewing will be from noon to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, with a visitation held between 6:00 and 8:00 pm, at Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.

 

Funeral services are at 10:30 am, Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at United Methodist Church in Blue Rapids with Pastor Berniece Ludlum officiating.  Althea Wertz is the musician.  Congregational hymns include “How Great Thou Art”, “Amazing Grace” and “On Eagle’s Wings”.   Casket Bearers are Ryan Bishop, Curtis Bishop, Bobby Dale, Jimmy Davis, Jeremy Bishop and Braden Bishop.   Honorary Bearers are Melanie Osteen, Melinda Warren, Sarah Hormann, Kimberly Davis, Tiffany Watt, Jessica Oswald, Connor Pike.  Burial is at Fairmont Cemetery in Blue Rapids

 

Memorials are suggested to Valley Heights High School and may be sent in care of Christie-Anderes Funeral Home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
