Earl Ray Dornberger, age 86 of Riley, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.
He was born on August 5, 1937 in Industry, the son of Harry Walter and Adda Mae (Jury) Dornberger.
He married Carol Marie Edwards on June 6, 1981. She survives of the home.
Earl served in the United States Air Force in Top Security for 22 years, retiring in 1977. Following his military career, he worked at G.T.E. in California and drove a school bus for U.S.D. 378 Riley County Schools. He also farmed outside of Riley. Earl was a member of the Riley Presbyterian Church, Master Mason Clay Center, and Eastern Star 180 Clay Center.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Dornberger of Riley; one step son, Rick Edwards and wife Cathy of Sargent, Texas; one step daughter, Lynda Vargem of Plano, Texas; one brother, Martin Dornberger and wife Faye of Clay Center; one sister, Shirley Woods of Arkansas; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sons, David Dornberger, Ronald Dornberger and Michael Dornberger, and two sisters, Gladys Billingham and Phylis Johnston.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at the Riley Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gerry Sharp officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors will be in the Bala Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Stained Glass Window Fund at the Riley Presbyterian Church or Meadowlark Parkinson’s Program. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
