Eleanor June Samuelson, age 95 of rural Randolph, passed peacefully and entered God’s Kingdom on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 surrounded by her family.
She was born on July 22, 1923 in Claire, Buchanan County, Missouri, the daughter of Rev. Franklin and Ora (Bean) Walter. Her childhood was spent in different communities where her father was assigned as a minister. She graduated from Emporia Senior High School in 1941 and attended Kansas State University. She taught school for three years in the Swede Creek Rose Hill area, taught Sunday School and worked for 20 years in the accounting department at Lafene Health Center at Kansas State University. Following her retirement from KSU, she worked at Yellowstone National Park and traveled to England, Scotland and Wales.
In 1944, Reverend Walter and family were assigned to the Swede Creek EUB Church north of Randolph. Eleanor met Arno E. Samuelson and they were married on August 14, 1947. They were happily married for 39 years until his death in 1986. She continued to live in the Rose Hill community the rest of her life.
Eleanor enjoyed collecting antiques and working in ceramics. She was a member of the Swede Creek United Methodist Church and Swede Creek UMW and was the Treasurer for both of them. She loved her large yard, flowers, nature, her beloved Corgis and many friends and family.
She is survived by her two children, James (Connie) Samuelson of Westmoreland and Gary (Lee) Samuelson of Lawrence; two grandchildren, Nicholas Samuelson, Adam (Kerrie) Samuelson; three great grandchildren, Jazmine, Shawn and Cian and two nieces and a nephew.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Frank Walter.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the Swede Creek United Methodist Church with Pastors Kevin Larson and Sandy Ferguson officiating. Inurnment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Swede Creek United Methodist Church and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
