Evelyn June Grooms

Evelyn June Grooms, age 95 of Ozawkie, passed away Friday, August 5, 2016 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born on December 7, 1920, in the Fancy Creek Township in Riley County, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Anne Belle (Reed) Dugan. On September 30, 1939, she was married to Loren Johnson. He preceded her in death on September 3, 1963. She later married Donald Grooms on August 8, 1966. He preceded her in death on September 11, 2004. She was a homemaker. She is survived by by two sons, Steven Ray Johnson of Meriden and Kevin Leroy Johnson and wife Mary of Ozawkie; one brother, Jerry Dugan of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Mildred Switzer of Abilene; ten grandchildren Cheri Duncan, James Harding, Jr. and wife Staci, Michael Harding and Loretta, Amanda Johnson Harries and husband Scott, Robert Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Josh Rabe and wife Melissa and Chris Rabe; 20 great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, David Johnson and three brothers, Alfred, Warren and Floyd Dugan. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating. Respect calls may be made anytime Monday. The family will greet friends before the funeral on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Mayday Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Disabled American Veterans. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
