Florence Ruth Johnston Hadin, age 93 of Leonardville, Kansas, died July 14, 2014 at the Leonardville Nursing Home.
She was born on August 23, 1920 at the family farm in rural Riley County, where she was raised throughout her childhood, the second child of Henry and Alma (Weinert) Nanninga.
Florence graduated from Leonardville High School in 1938 and then attended Normal Teaching Training. She taught in rural Riley County schools for the five years before her marriage.
She married Elmo Frank Johnston on December 25, 1943. After his return from World War II, they settled into married life where Elmo farmed near Leonardville and Florence was a homemaker. She worked out of the home in various jobs after her children were older, including a secretary at Blue Valley High School and as a dietician at Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center. She was a life long member of the Leonardville United Methodist Church.
Elmo preceded her in death on April 14, 1983. In July of 1984 she married Howard Hadin who preceded her in death in 2002. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Marie Sump Wille; one brother, Charles Nanninga and a grandson, Nathaniel Johnston Benney.
She is survived by three children, Franklin Johnston of Kerrville, Texas, Jeanette Benney of Leonardville and Ruth Ann Seydel of Jonesboro, Arkansas; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Leonardville United Methodist Church with Pastor Sandy Ferguson officiating. Respect calls may be made anytime Friday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley. Burial will be in the Leonardville United Methodist Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Leonardville United Methodist Church. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas.
