Joan Marie Steenbock, age 76 of Leonardville, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the Clay County Medical Center in Clay Center.
She was born on July 10, 1941 in Santa Monica, California, the daughter of John C. and W. Marie (Burger) Cain. She lived in Oklahoma City and Clay Center during her school years and graduated from Clay Center High School in 1959 and the St. Francis School of Nursing in 1962. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Ethics and Management from Manhattan Christian College in 1996.
On August 11 1962, she was married to Franklin J. Steenbock at the St. Paul Lutheran Church. He survives of the home.
Joan worked nearly 45 years as a nurse for the Clay County Medical Center. She was a shift nurse, assistant to director of nursing, recovery room nurse, director of utilization review/discharge planner and then worked part time after retirement on an as needed basis. She was a long time member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and Altar’s Guild and an active 4-H leader. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports, gardening, scrap booking and was a longtime season ticket holder for K-State football and basketball.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Therese Keesling-Bogle and husband Jim Bogle of Hutchinson, John Steenbock and wife Tamara of Springboro, Ohio and Allen Steenbock and wife Kanda of Olathe; her mother, W. Marie Cain of Clay Center and six grandchildren, Chase and Colby Keesling, Joshua and Natalie Steenbock and Tyler and Tanner Steenbock.
She was preceded in death by her father and one granddaughter, Klarissa Keesling.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clay Center with Rev. Paul Tessaro officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley. Burial will be in the Leonardville Methodist Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Clay County Medical Center Building Fund. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
