Joyce Carol Joann Swanger, age 82 of Leonardville, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.
She was born on January 10, 1933 in the Bala Township in Riley County, Kansas, the daughter of Carl and Mamie (Dugan) Swenson.
On June 14, 1964 in Manhattan, she was married to Horace Swanger. He preceded her in death in 2008.
Joyce worked in the food service industry for 49 years, spending her last 20 years at Kansas State University. She enjoyed baking, gardening and crocheting. She was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Bryan Swanger and Lori of Leonardville; two daughters, Kimberly Ranalli of Leonardville and Darcella Wallen of Manhattan; two brothers, Carl Swenson of Riley and Wendell Swenson of Omaha, Nebraska; one sister, Donna Wells of Florida; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Barefield; one brother, Duane Swenson; two sisters, Lois Miller and Dorothy Matson and her granddaughter, Tonia Marie Barefield Spalding.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 13, 2015 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley with Rev. David VanBebber officiating. Respect calls may be made anytime Thursday, where the family will receive friends from 7 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday evening. Burial will be in the Leonardville Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Crossroad Baptist Church. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
