Judith Ann Heikes (Clampitt), of Riley, Kansas, age 70, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2013 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, Kansas.
She was born on March 11, 1942 at her parent’s home in Alma, Kansas to James Orin and Sarah (Pio) Clampitt.
She married her husband of almost 41 years Leland Fred “Joe” Heikes on December 31, 1966 in
Leonardville, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 16, 2007.
Judith and her sister Helen "Trix" Fasse owned and operated the Calico Inn in Riley for 27 years. During that time she and her family opened the Calico Inn Too in Blue Rapids, Kansas, later selling the Calico Inn Too. She went on to cook for sororities and fraternities at Kansas State University until she retired because of health issues.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Trix Fasse.
She leaves behind three children, Tammy Viers and husband R.J. of Nathrop, Colorado, Jackie Rose of Frankfort and Jason Heikes and wife Lisa of Riley; three sisters in law, Doris Heikes, Marilyn Myers and husband Dale and Anita Jensen and husband Don. Seven grandchildren, Haley and Raquel Viers, Jake, Jediah and Aubrie Rose, Tiffany and Jason Michael Heikes; three step-grandchildren and a special nephew, Doug Fasse and many other nieces and nephews.
Judy will be remembered as a woman who could make a friend the minute she met them and as a mother and grandmother who loved her children unconditionally. She was a wife of unconditional love and knew she found her soul mate.
Memorial services were held on Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating. Burial was in the Riley Cemetery.
Judy's family would like to extend their gratitude to the Meadowlark Hills Nursing Home (Bramlage Rehab House) and especially to the wonderful ladies at Garden Grove Apartments who took special care and interest in her last four months while being there. Your kindness, compassion, and friendship brought so much joy to her life.
A memorial has been established for the Flint Hills Bread Basket.
