Marjorie Louise Scardina, age 86 of Manhattan, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House.
She was born on July 11, 1929 on the family farm at Randolph, the daughter of Frederick and Esther (Swanson) Hillstrom. She graduated from Randolph Rural High School and received an associates degree from Brown Mackie College in Salina.
On May 6, 1952, she was married to Michael Scardina, Sr. in Arlington, Virginia. He preceded her in death on May 26, 2012.
Marjorie was a homemaker and had worked in civil service and various secretarial positions. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Manhattan and past member of the Ladies V.F.W. Auxilary Post 7517 and Prairie Rose E.H.U She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, bird watching, knitting her own sweaters, sewing, eating at Burger King and was a great cook.
She is survived by two sons, Michael F. Scardina, Jr. and wife Lyn of Auburn and Duane A. Scardina and wife Myrna of Randolph; one daughter, Sharon L. Shoemaker and husband Russell, Jr. of Odessa, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Helen Hillstrom of Rockville, Maryland; five grandchildren, Vincent Scardina, Anthony Scardina, Russell Shoemaker III, Audrey Esterl and Amy Swartz and six great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy Spencer, Leonard Hillstrom and Wilfred Hillstrom.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley. Respect calls may be made anytime Friday. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:00 P.M. Friday. Burial will be in the Randolph Fancy Creek Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for the Good Shepherd Hospice House and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
