Richard DeForrest Olson,age 90, of Manhattan, Kansas, a former resident of Waterville, Kansas, died on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at the Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan. He was born on October 3, 1922, at Richland Center, Wisconsin, the son of Otto and Margaret (Parfrey) Olson.
He had been a Librarian in the rare book department at Northwestern University, an Industrial Engineer and had been a High School Principal. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Margaret Olson, one brother, James Olson and one sister, Barbara Olson Turner. He is survived by one nephew, Erick R. Olson of Richland Center, Wisconsin and one niece, Peggy Turner Borgwardt of Valders, Wisconsin.
A private memorial service for his family and special friends will be held at a later date. The Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas, is in charge of arrangements.
