Robert F. Bentley, age 84 of Leonardville, Kansas, died Friday, October 31, 2014 at his residence.
He was born on December 4, 1929 in West Plains, Missouri, the son of Burl Rudolph and Elsie Adeline (Haley) Bentley.
On February 9, 1954, he was married to Berniece Fern Short at Clinton, Missouri. She preceded him in death in 2004.
He was a member of the U.S. Army for over 20 years. After his military career he held many jobs. He worked for the COOP, owned and operated the Leonardville Cafe and Bentley’s Convenience Store, sold insurance, delivered parts for Car Quest, worked at the bowling alley on Fort Riley and in Clay Center and lastly, delivered The Manhattan Mercury for the last 20 years.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Hicks of Leonardville and Brenda Henderson and Armour of Anderson, Missouri; one brother, Virgil Bentley and Donna of Shawnee Mission; four sisters, Mary Jo Short of Clinton, Missouri, Bertha Frauenfelder of Salina, Frieda Parks of Columbia, Missouri and Helen Sue Sersey of Clinton, Missouri; four grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded by one son, Robert B. Bentley in 2011 and two sisters, Betty Jane Fick and Agnes Evans.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the Walsburg Lutheran Church with Pastor Gordon L. Sandquist officiating. Respect calls may be made anytime Wednesday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, where the family will receive friends from 7-8:00 P.M. Wednesday. Burial with military honors will be in the Walsburg Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Homecare and Hospice and Wounded Warriors Project. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas.
