Rollin Ernest Sump, 80, died Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at home from a blood mass on the brain caused by a stroke on June 22, 2018.
He was born Feb. 12, 1938 at home near May Day, the son of Norman and Ernestine (Rundle) Sump.
Rollin grew up on the family farm in the Green community and graduated from Green High School in 1956. He was born a farmer and died a farmer. He served in the Army National Guard for eight years with company “D” 137th Infantry and company “B” 891st. ENGR BN. He also worked building Milford Dam, painted houses and graded roads in Blaine and Chapman Townships when he wasn’t working on his farm near Industry. He was awarded the Kansas Bankers Soil Award in 1980.
In 1963 he married Brenda Jenkins and later divorced. On Feb. 20, 1988 he married Patricia Faith Breer and later renewed their wedding vows on May 6, 1994. They lived on their farm near Industry until moving to their home near Manchester.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Janet Long and a brother-in-law Philip Long.
Survivors include his wife, Faith Sump of Manchester; one son, Kevin Sump of Clay Center; one daughter, Machelle Bohanan and husband Chang of Salina; one grandson, Niklas Bohanan of Salina; two granddaughters, Breeana Bohanan and Alina Bohanan, both of Salina; his ex-wife, Brenda Sump of Clay Center and two sisters, Norma Dupus of Hoyt and Carole Wichman of Green.
A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2018 at Mrs. Rollin Sump’s home at 3109 Camp Rd., Manchester, with family greeting friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Cremation is planned.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Salina or Disabled Veterans - Paralyzed Veterans and may be left in the care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
