Ronald Dean “Ronnie” Nelson, age 58 of Blue Rapids, passed away Monday, September 5, 2016 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. He was born on September 19, 1957 in Manhattan, the son of Elmer and Delpha Jean (Pfaff) Nelson. He was baptized and confirmed in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and graduated from Blue Valley Randolph High School in 1976. Ronnie was a passionate farmer and cattleman who loved his family. He lived and farmed in the Swede Creek area his entire life. He played traveling softball and loved the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs. He is survived by his parents, Elmer “Junior” and Delpha Nelson of Blue Rapids; one brother, Roger Nelson and Penny of Randolph; a sister-in-law, Patty Nelson of Olsburg; five nieces and nephews, Jesse Nelson and Kelli of Manhattan, Stacy Wurtz and Brian of Riley, Adam Nelson and Cassandra of Manhattan, Heather Nelson of Dayton, Ohio and Garrett Nelson of Olsburg; six great nieces and nephews, Rielyn Woodward, Cord Wurtz, Clare Delpha Wurtz, Will Merritt, Olivia Nelson and Brynlee Clark and his dog Wiggles. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elmer and Alice (Cravens) Nelson and Herbert and Blandina (Killman) Pfaff; his brother, Larry Nelson in 2004 and his niece, Ashley Nelson in 1986 Funeral services were held on September 9, 2016 at the St. Peter Lutheran Church with Rev. Rodney Fritz officiating. Music was furnished by Kathie Otney. Pallbearers were Jesse Nelson, Adam Nelson, Garrett Nelson, Brian Wurtz, Greg Hudec and Cody Sump. Honorary Pallbearers were Alan Nelson, Nathan Klocke, Dirk Hargadine, Danny Pfaff, Perry Smith, Eddie Bergsten, Steve Wieters and Tim Pfaff. Burial was in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials have been established for St. Peter Lutheran Church and American Heart Association. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
