Roy Edward Taylor, age 90 of Manhattan, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2018 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House.
He was born March 19, 1928, on his grandparents farm, north of Keats, to Edward J. Taylor and Doris (Taylor) Taylor. He was raised in the Middle Seven Mile area, until his family was forced to move due to the enlargement of Ft. Riley at the start of World War II. Roy and his family moved to the Silver Lake area, where he graduated from Silver Lake High School.
Roy was united in marriage to Barbara Lee Mitchell in Topeka, on September 10, 1948. She survives him at the home. He is also survived by two daughters; Vicki and Russ Burnett, and Julie and Keith Bishop; three sons, David and Adella Taylor, Steven and Sherry Taylor, and Richard and Janette Taylor; fourteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Merle.
Roy was a farmer all his life. He was also a Customer Engineer for IBM for 35+ years, servicing the huge main-frame computers, starting in Topeka, then in Manhattan from 1974 until his retirement. His hobby was keeping his fields weed free but his greatest joy was family. His strong faith in the Lord and amazing work ethic influenced his family, and anyone who knew him, immeasurably.
Roy suffered ill health the last few years of his life and received wonderful care from his wife, Barbara, and the caregivers at Stoneybrook, Via Christi Village and Good Shepherd Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2018 at the University Christian Church with Pastor Jack Sweany officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Prairie Home Cemetery, northwest of Topeka.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, or Bethel Community Church in Topeka and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 176, Riley, Kansas 66531.
