Rudolph A. “Rudy” Fritz, Jr., age 83, of Silver Lake, passed away at Plaza West Nursing Home in Topeka on Friday, August 19, 2022.
Rudy was born October 12, 1938 in Marysville, to Rose E. (Stitesky) and Rudolph A. Fritz, Sr. After graduating from Blue Rapids High School, he served in the Kansas Army National Guard. Rudy moved to Topeka and went to work at the Santa Fe Railroad Shops for three years. He attended Highland Park Community College where he graduated and went on to secure a job with the Kansas Department of Labor working as a Computer Programmer/Analyst. He worked for the department for 33 years and retired in 2004.
Rudy was a member of First Baptist Church of Silver Lake, the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge #50 in Silver Lake.
Rudy enjoyed going out to eat with family and friends. He could be a bit stubborn and very ornery at times. He had a heart of gold and, if someone was in need, he would be the first person in line to give. Rudy would often give gifts anonymously because he never wanted a thank you, just always wanted to help where he could. Rudy believed in education and gave scholarships annually to Valley Heights High School and Silver Lake High School senior graduates.
Survivors include a niece Julie Fritz of Wichita along with cousins and many friends.
Preceding Rudy in death were his parents and his brother Ross Fritz.
Funeral services are planned for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 25, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Silver Lake. Burial is planned for 2:30 p.m., Thursday at Fairmont Cemetery in Blue Rapids. Military Honors will be presented by an Honor Detail from the Kansas Army National Guard and George Bedford Post 169 of the American Legion of Blue Rapids.
Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to either the Valley Heights High School or Silver Lake High School scholarship funds and may be sent in care of Christie-Anderes Funeral Home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
