Shirley G. Carlson, age 79, of Wichita, Kansas, died Thursday February 7, 2013, at Midwest Homestead of Wichita.
She was born in Miami, Oklahoma on September 11, 1933, the daughter of Roy H. and Ruby Lucille (Peckham) Giles.
She graduated from NEO A&M College, where she was a Norse Star dancer.
On October 26, 1963, in Wichita, Kansas she was married to Roger Carlson. He survives of the home.
Shirley was a homemaker and had worked at NCR and Excel Beef in Wichita before retiring in 1996. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Wichita, a member of the Peoria Indian Tribe of Oklahoma-Ottawa Tribe, and a past member of the Eastern Star. She was active in the PTA, Boy and Girl Scouts and volunteered at the Extension Center.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Stephen Carlson and wife Linda of Wichita; one daughter, Julie Herman and husband Mike of Wichita; one brother, Carol Ed Giles of Commerce, Oklahoma; one sister, Nell Runyon of Commerce, Oklahoma and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Alice Burgess, and four brothers, Marion, Johnny, Moody and Gary Giles.
A funeral service was held on Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 2525 N. Rock Road, Wichita, Kansas, with Rev. Laurence Greenwood officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery north of Randolph, Kansas.
A memorial has been established for the Calvary United Methodist Church.
