Shirley H. Johnson, age 70 of Riley, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the Via Christi Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.
She was born on December 28, 1944 in Greenville, Kentucky, the daughter of Boyce and Iva (Buchanan) Hocker. She was raised by her mother and step‐father, Elmer Hughes, graduating from Round Lake (Illinois) High School in 1963. On February 1, 1969, she married John E. Johnson at Round Lake, Illinois. They later divorced.
Shirley was a retired secretary who spent most of her career with the federal government, working for the Selective Service System and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, including many years at the Grain Marketing and Production Research Center in Manhattan. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, collecting bells, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Jim Johnson and wife Karin of Wichita and three granddaughters, Kayla, Amy, and Claire Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ralph and Robert Hughes, and one sister, Eva Stout.
Cremation is planned with private family graveside services at the Riley Cemetery at a later date.
A memorial has been established for the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes‐Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley.
