Verna Alice Wiard

Verna Alice Wiard, age 93 of Manhattan, Kansas, died Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at the Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. She was born on November 17, 1921 in Leonardville, Kansas, the daughter of Herbert C. and Mary V. (Hanson) Johnson. On May 14, 1942, she was married to Herman R. Wiard at Leonardville, Kansas. He preceded her in death on July 29, 2014. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Keats United Methodist Church, Keats United Methodist Women, Silver Creek Beneficiary Club, Keats Redirects and Eastern Star. She is survived by two sons, Howard A. Wiard and wife Judy of Denver, Colorado and David C. Wiard and wife Nancy of Viola, Kansas; one daughter, Mary Alice Wiard of Wichita, Kansas; two brothers, Orland C. Johnson and wife Virginia and Gordon D. Johnson, both of Overland Park, Kansas; two sister-in-laws, Helen Crowl of Olathe, Kansas and Priscilla Johnson of Denver, Colorado; four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Johnson, one sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Jay Porter and one sister-in-law, Gretta Johnson. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, October 12, 2015 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley with Rev. Bill Eisele officiating. A private family burial will be in the Leonardville Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Keats United Methodist Church. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas.
