Walter Lee Richards, age 78, of Riley, Kansas, passed away Monday, November 5, 2012, at the Via Christi Village in Manhattan, Kansas.
He was born on June 7, 1934 in Estes Park, Colorado, the son of Eber Lee and Rachel (Lahnert) Richards.
Walter served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and served two tours in Vietnam with the U.S. Army. He worked as an agent for the Criminal Investigation Division for 24 years before retiring from the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Elm Creek First Christian Church and a lifetime member of the American Legion and V.F.W. He was an amateur radio operator and enjoyed geneology.
He was married to Betty Jane Becker on April 19, 1953 in Elm Creek, Nebraska. She survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Lyle Richards of Elm Creek, Nebraska; one sister, Donna Richards of Kearney, Nebraska; a daughter-in-law, Maria Richards of Brownsville, Texas; three grandchildren, Shawn Feldman and wife Yong, Christian Richards and Ashley Richards and one great grandson, Quintin Feldman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Alan Richards.
A funeral services was held Friday, November 9, 2012 at the First Christian Church in Elm Creek, Nebraska with Pastor Dean Pofahl officiating. Burial was in the Elm Creek Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
The Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home of Riley, Kansas handled the arrangements.
